Grey Francolin

Gray Francolin (Francolinus pondicerianus), also called Grey Partridge, is a common breeding resident in Haryana and rest of India. This bird is found in most open habitats upto altitudes of 500 m. It prefers drier areas, avoiding humid tracts.

Order: GALLIFORMES    Family: Phasianidae    Hindi name: Teetar or Bhoora Tittar    Food: Grain, seeds, termites, insects

Identification: Sexes alike. Stub-tailed grayish brown, plum bird. With chestnut blotches above and buff vermiculations and chestnut tail. Throat rufous buff, circumscribed by dark line. Stays on ground in daytime, but roosts on trees like Babul.
